Playtest Crew: testing other members' games

starterShow your work

What it is

Playtest Crew is an optional Discord role for members who want to try other members’ games and give practical feedback. There is no application and no weekly requirement.

You do not need the role to share a game or to receive feedback. Reviews from any member are welcome.

Join, check and leave

Command What it does
/playtest join Opts you in and adds the role. It asks whether your reviews can appear in the public weekly ranking.
/playtest browse Privately lists project threads that are waiting for feedback
/playtest profile Privately shows your status, this week’s count and this month’s count
/playtest nominate Puts a review forward for a monthly award
/playtest leave Removes the role and stops future ranking. Your feedback points stay as they are.

If you already had the older feedback role, you are not entered into anything. Run /playtest join yourself if you want to take part. To change your ranking choice, run /playtest join again.

Finding a game to test

/playtest browse covers recent registered project threads in the public project forums. It skips your own threads, locked threads and posts tagged as sharing only. Each line says what Byte could confirm:

  • no reply from another member yet
  • posted in the last 24 hours, no reply yet
  • replies, but none marked helpful by the creator
  • one or more reviewers marked helpful by the creator

The creator’s own follow-up posts and bot messages are not counted as replies. If Byte could not read a thread, it is not listed as unanswered. The reply says how many threads could not be checked. A platform filter is available when the creator has set platforms on their Project.

Leave your review in the game’s existing thread. How to give feedback that helps covers what to include.

Weekly ranking

The weekly feedback post in the leaderboard channel can include a Playtest Crew section. It lists up to three rank positions, and members with the same count share a rank.

Your count is the number of different projects where the creator marked your review as helpful that week. Several helpful comments on one project count once. Only members who chose ranking in /playtest join are listed, and only reviews written after they made that choice. Manual point adjustments do not count.

The count measures participation. A higher number does not mean better feedback. Your normal feedback points are separate and work as before.

Monthly awards

Two awards are judged by people after each month ends:

  • Reviewer of the Month, for consistent, specific and practical reviews
  • Most Impactful Feedback, for one review with a clear, supported effect on a project

Anyone can nominate a review with /playtest nominate and a link to the review message. You can nominate your own. A nomination is not a vote. The limit is five nominations per person per month.

To be considered, a reviewer needs at least three creator-confirmed reviews, written that month, across two different projects. Meeting that does not decide the award. A moderator who is not the nominee, the nominator or the project’s creator reviews the shortlist and asks the winner before naming them. The team may decide that no nomination meets the standard.

Results appear in a later weekly feedback post. Awards are recognition only. No paid or sponsored prizes are promised, and a feature in the game spotlight or on this website is a separate decision.

What does not qualify

Generic praise, repeated filler, trading helpful reactions, pressuring a creator to award points and reviewing your own project do not qualify. Critique belongs in project threads where the creator has asked for feedback, not in the work-in-progress channel.

If something looks wrong

Use /report in Discord with the relevant message link. A moderator who was not involved reviews it. Awards can be corrected or withdrawn, and the change is recorded.
